Asthma attack
What you should do in the event of the onset of an asthma attack:
- Take two puffs of your reliever (blue) inhaler
- Sit up straight and loosen any tight fitting clothing
- If you feel no immediate improvement during an attack, you should continue to take one puff of reliever inhaler every minute for five minutes or until your symptoms do improve
If for whatever reason your symptoms do not improve in five minutes, or you are in any doubt whatsoever, call the emergency services or a doctor urgently, especially if:
- You are too breathless or exhausted to talk, in which case you may need to get a neighbour to call for you
- Your lips are blue
If you are prone to bad attacks of allergy asthma like the last two points described above, you should make sure you are in possession of an alarm of sorts to directly alert the emergency services. Or perhaps you could speak to a neighbour or friend in advance that could help you in these situations.
